I am planning on acquiring another Pcar in 2010 ( sold my 82 SC about 5 yrs ago and am currently toyless). I am interested in people's impressions of the 09 pdk cars to help me with my decision. Also interested in comparisons between say 07-09 Turbo and 09 PDK S and c4s cars, particularly from owners and knowledgeable/experienced enthusiasts. Lee

While I don't own the cars in question. I do happen to be lucky enough to work at a dealership. I have to say everything they say about the PDK is true. It is an amazing transmission.

Personally (and no one shoot me here) I have a thing for the Caymans with the PDK. Its just such a damn fun ride. I believe there was a MotorTrend article recently naming it drivers car of the year.

Now if your an absolute purist you might not like the PDK as it doesn't have the exact feel of shifting through the gate yourself. But manual shifts are very responsive. And when you let it shift itself it is damn near psychic. As many articles have pointed out; the cars are actually faster when you let the PDK do the shifting for you.

Now I haven't had the chance to drive the same car day to day as my daily driver, so maybe someone else here will have other thoughts on how they feel/perform long haul with the PDK.

I agree with opinions that acknowledge PDK is superior to regular manual 6 speed. I have '09 C4S with PDK, have always driven 6 speed manuals, and unambiguously declare that for both daily driving and track play PDK is the future. I subscribe to all the car magazines and am aware that some journalists prefer the "involvement" of a regular 6 speed. But that is like saying you prefer a '67 Mustang to a '10 Mustang - "classic" (old fashioned and out-dated) versus state-of-the-art faster and more comfortable. PDK is the state of the art and is vastly superior in performance and convenience.

I also track cars, and have for about 23 years. I do not agree with opinions that state leaving PDK in automatic mode is quicker than shifting yourself, but it would take much time and space to explain why.

Oh yeah, I also have a Cayman S with a regular 6 speed.
